The concept of Howgills Home Tutoring was formed during the first lockdown. So many friends and family approached me for help with the work set for their children. It made me realise there was a real need for support for many families. The idea was to provide additional and affordable help for anyone who needed it.
In the past two years, it’s gone from strength to strength. Subjects include (but aren’t limited to) maths, English, RE, physics, chemistry and biology. The sessions are very relaxed, flexible and can be of varied lengths and frequency depending on what you require. The youngest student is 6 and I also teach adults.
I have a variety of other tutors I work with who are all known to me either through working with them in an educational setting or having them teach my own children. They all work independently but you are welcome to contact them either directly or through myself so I can help you find the best person for your needs. I know how difficult it can be to find a good tutor having been on the other side seeking them for my own children. I do know some others who aren’t on here so, if the subject you require isn’t listed, don’t hesitate to contact me.
“My son Jamie had been home schooled for almost a year after his secondary school became problematic. He’s very clever and I didn’t want him to fall behind, so I asked Laura to support his maths for a few months. I am a university lecturer in education with several degrees in different subjects - maths is not my thing but I know a lot about teaching and learning. I was extremely impressed with how Laura taught - her focus and flexibility, and her ability to be creative and find practical examples. Jamie chose to go to another school and has done really well. I asked him what he remembered and he said she was extremely patient in helping him to understand. He’s just chosen to do maths A level and is going into sixth form. A good teacher makes a real difference. I wish Laura still lived nearby to be able to give that extra boost - and I’m holding fire to see how ‘A’level goes in case I need to get in touch for an online boost!”
“ Laura is the most patient person that I know! I’m very happy that I found her in the beginning of our homeschooling journey. She has been teaching my daughter maths, English and science for over a year. I really like the fact that Laura teaches my daughter some games which help with learning maths and English. Laura makes her lessons very engaging and interesting. She is very flexible and friendly. Highly recommended!”
“Our son needed some extra maths tuition leading up to school entrance exams recently and over the course of a few months Laura gave him virtual lessons covering topics where he needed extra help. Laura is very patient and helped my son to understand maths concepts more clearly. Happy to say he passed the entrance exams and was offered places. Thank you Laura and we will be back for more support in the future.”
“Laura’s maths tuition has been instrumental and invaluable to my daughters learning. The additional sessions have seen her confidence in her mathematical ability go from strength to strength. This has given her a great start in her secondary school career. Laura is passionate and patient in her approach, she has a way of explaining concepts that makes it easy to understand. I would highly recommend Laura. Thank you for all your help. ”
